Cornerstones of Care Demonstrates Strong Commitment to NFW

Due to the immense success of last year’s National Family Week family forum and reception, Cornerstones of Care, Kansas City, MO, has decided to implement the celebration as an annual event.

In order to make an event “annual” Cornerstones of Care has strived to enhance the quality and impact of their family forum. This year, Cornerstones of Care is committed to addressing the obstacles facing vulnerable children and families.

hey will specifically focus on the local, state and national policies that affect the ability of families to meet their needs and become economically self-sufficient. They will also explore current public issues including health care, child care and welfare reform.

“The key to a successful family forum is that we require all stakeholders to come together to openly discuss issues, explore options, weigh each others views and consider the costs and consequences of public policy decisions,” says Thom McNamara, community outreach director, Cornerstones of Care. “There is a critical need to inform citizens about public issues and help them identify the common ground on which to base actions that will improve outcomes for children and families.”

Cornerstones of Care have continued their tradition on finding a well respected community leader to be the keynote speaker. The Honorable Ann Mesle, Family Court Administrative Judge for the Circuit Court of Jackson County, MO, will provide inspiring words surrounding the importance of connections within their communities. Local officials including the Mayors, State legislative Officials, and the Governors of Missouri and Kansas will be invited to attend.

The agency is also planning to honor and recognize exemplary efforts by individuals, in a volunteer or professional capacity, which advocate for children and families. “The awards reception allows each of the Cornerstones of Care agencies to come together and thank the individuals and greater community for their support of our programs and services,” says Thom McNamara. This year, all five Cornerstones of Care agencies will present an award to one special honoree that has made a significant impact in the well-being of children and families.
