FSW is collaborating with Fairfield University to host the Youth Power
Partnership, a program designed to provide high school students with the
tools and skills to make healthier life choices and to ultimately reduce
risk behaviors common to adolescents.

The Village will hold a policy forum entitled "A Home at Last," which will
be a formal dialogue between policymakers, community members, and community
service agencies, on the issue of adoption. The Village will also
continue to provide clients with advocacy training through their Family
Resource Centers. Village clients can become the catalysts for change once
they become empowered to advocate for themselves and are aware of effective
legislative solutions. Workshops include voter registration, legislative
process, advocacy and mobilization.

Local community leaders, policymakers and family representatives will be
invited to join Family Service Centers staff to address practices and
policies that strengthen children and families. In particular, the group
will focus on the issue of adequate funding for privatized child protective
services in Pinellas County. Results of the meeting's discussion will be
announced and further discussed in a NFW follow-up event.

A family summit is being held to educate the community about the
newly formed Alachua County Children's Alliance (ACCA) during National
Family Week. The ACCA will present information regarding their services,
target population, demographics, upcoming events and challenges.

A community forum on affordable housing and foreclosure prevention in
Jacksonville will be held during National Family Week. The forum will
consist of three components: A federal leader will discuss federal
initiatives and legislation to expand affordable housing; City leaders will
discuss Jacksonville's progress on affordable housing and foreclosure
reduction; and Family Foundation's President and CEO will discuss the State
of the Family report.

program will participate in a recognition and graduation ceremony. The
Building Strong Families program links families on the brink of homelessness

In response to Georgia's dismal ranking on the Casey Kids Count list,
Families First will host a policy forum that explores solutions to the
crises impacting the state's children and families. The National Family Week
observance is expected to be a launch of an ongoing campaign to improve the
lives of Georgia's children and families.

As part of National Family Week, Jewish Family & Career Services will host
an Empty Bowl Dinner and resource fair. The goal of the event is to raise
critical awareness of homelessness and showcase available resources to
address the problem. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Project
Connect, Jewish Family & Career Services homeless program.

The Family Center will kick-off National Family Week with a policy forum and
informational resource fair. Organizations will staff booths and provide
local resources geared toward supporting families.

Hull House will host a policy forum on the Crisis of the Black Family during
National Family Week. Using the information in their research project,
Minding the Gap: An Assessment of Racial Disparity in Metropolitan Chicago
and the research found in the Dellums Commission work on the state of young
men of color, they will host a family summit to discuss the challenges
facing the family. This discussion will be policy focused highlighting
strategies for action to strengthen children and families.

The agency's National Family Week observance will employ an interactive
education experience designed to train community residents and agency
parents in four critical areas of community and family need: public
education, housing, immigration and adequate food. Using civic
engagement principles and techniques, participants will receive training in
advocacy and organizing strategies designed to increase community and parent
action to strengthen communities and empower citizens. Participants will
also receive voter education and registration information.

Methodist Youth Services, Inc. will host a community festival/informational
resource fair in the Roseland Community. The agency will utilize this
opportunity to promote family preservation, networking and connecting the
community members to supportive resources.

Child Care Association will develop advocacy/education materials for their
member agencies to use in their advocacy outreach to legislators during
National Family Week. They also plan to integrate National Family Week into
their fall membership meeting with key child welfare leaders. At least 70
member agencies will discuss key issues relating to practices and policies
that effectively strengthen children and families. Ongoing contact with the
legislators will continue after National Family Week to continue to enforce
advocacy efforts and messaging.
Indiana:

Lampion will be hosting a community forum in regards to challenges impacting
economically struggling families in Evansville, barriers to services and the
micro/macro impact of poverty on families and the community as a whole. They
will also be linking National Family Week to their Bridges Out of Poverty
initiative. The Bridges Out of Poverty approach maximizes shared vision,
shared funding and responsibility, re-education regarding families in
poverty, and slow growth toward broad based community involvement at all
levels.

During National Family Week, Family Service Council plans to host a policy
forum for state legislators on educational issues, a family summit for key
policymakers and families in regards to changes in practice approach,
prepare and release the 2007 State of Families in Indiana report, conduct
individual meetings with key legislative leadership, and create a
post-legislative session analysis of the family-friendly aspects of
legislation introduced and enacted in the Indiana General Assembly.

Family Service of Central Indiana proposes organizing a policy forum
with local community partners to educate service providers about the effects
of trauma on early childhood development and related interventions and
treatment. The forum would facilitate discussion about best practices,
development of specialized intervention programs in the community and
development of ongoing training for the variety of professional working with
young children.

The mayor of Council Bluffs, as well as legislators will be invited to
attend a legislative breakfast and speak on key issues of families. Families
will be given the chance to ask specific questions of the legislators and
tell their stories through a moderator.

Partnering with the Kentucky Youth Advocates, which disseminates child data
and advocates for child centered public policies, they will help identify
positions on three issues critical to children's well being. Once the three
issues are identified they plan to promote these issues in Louisville and
the surrounding region with the assistance of the Kentucky Educational
Television. They are also planning to host a policy forum dedicated to
finding solutions to the three issues.

Families are invited to attend BeauCARE's family
festival/informational resource fair during National Family Week. The
informational resource fair will feature a variety of agencies/organizations

Key community leaders and partners are invited to attend The Family Tree's
National Family Week policy forum, which will discuss the challenges facing
area children and families. Information discussed in the forum will be
compiled into a report and sent to local legislators for further review.

Family & Youth plan to host a public policy summit, child advocates night
celebration, and awareness campaign during National Family Week. The public
policy summit will promote mission based advocacy to affect public policy
and will encourage membership in the Children & Families Action Network. The
Children & Families Action Network provides ongoing mission based advocacy
trainings, alerts on policies affecting children and families and networking
among local child and family serving agencies.

A community informational resource fair in conjunction with a family
festival and awards ceremony will be held during National Family Week. The
evening will be filled with informational booths by community agencies,
health checks, and job opportunities for families.

fair and dinner in recognition of National Family Week. Local agencies will

Catholic Charities is planning to host a family fair that will feature a
variety of booths including nutritionists, fitness experts, dentists, health
screenings, and local agencies. Catholic Charities will also be launching an
e-advocacy campaign that will educate families and alert them when a special
bill is being proposed that will affect their daily lives.
- Life Guidance Services Grand Rapids
Life Guidance Services and their parent organization, Proaction Behavioral
Health Alliance, will partner with the David Hunting YMCA to present the
second annual Family Expo. The purpose of the event is to strengthen
families by connecting them with community resources, informative seminars,
educational activities, and an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialog
with community leaders.

Eagle Village is planning a variety of events during their National
Family Week celebration including a resource fair, family communication
activities, advocacy workshops, and children activities.

families in Jackson County are expected to staff booths and attend Family
Service & Children's Aid National Family Week informational resource fair.

With the continued success of Family & Children's Service Community
Leadership Celebration, they will recognize 100 community leaders for their
involvement in supporting strong families, vital communities, and capable
children. This celebration will include: the engagement of public officials
in dialogue with families on issues, potential solutions, and action steps;
a informational resource fair; interactive workshops; recognition of
grassroots community leaders; and a multi-cultural family meal.

Communities Investing in Families will host a community festival, resource
fair, informative workshops, and dinner during National Family Week. They
will also be seeking vehicle donations to be used for local low-income
families.

- Missouri Baptist Children's Home Bridgeton
During NFW, Missouri Baptist plans to hold multiple activities including
a panel discussion with community leaders on current family issues, a
resource fair, and specialized training opportunities for foster/adoptive
families.
- Cornerstones of Care Kansas City
In recognition of National Family Week, Cornerstones of Care will host a
family forum to discuss the policies at the local, state and national levels
that affect the ability of families to thrive. Current public issues-ranging
from health care, child care and welfare reform-need input at the grassroots
level. Informed policy development requires that stakeholders come together
to openly discuss issues, explore options, weigh others' views, and consider
the costs and consequences of public policy decisions.

Association of New Jersey will host a policy forum that assesses the impact
of child welfare reform activities, identifies gaps and honors key
stakeholders.

To kickoff National Family Week, Newark Emergency Services is planning to
hold daily medical screenings, nutritional workshops, healthy eating
exercises, and a family dinner.

During NFW, Children's Aid will educate families on the needs and benefits
of adopting or fostering an older child while sharing personal stories and
available resources.
- Jewish Family Service of Bergen County Teaneck
Jewish Family Services proposes a community-wide Substance Abuse Family
Awareness Day during National Family Week. Attendees will learn about the
signs and symptoms of substance abuse; network and draw support from
families; learn from leading experts in the field; gain skills and ideas to
help families affected by substance abuse; and gather information about
available community resources.

summit, families will be interviewed regarding their concerns, opinions and
potential solutions to problems within the community. By focusing the forum
on these issues, the agency hopes that the community and local

complications at-risk youth face, how Northeast helps youth prepare for

make a difference. After the documentary airs during NFW, Northeast will
host a policy forum with area leaders on how they can continue to help
children succeed.

Over 70 community-based organizations will staff booths, provide resources
and discuss programs and services available in the community during National
Family Week. Andrus Children's Center will also incorporate public awareness
activities, health and nutrition workshops, and present the NFW Advocacy
Award.
North Carolina:
- Family Service, Inc. of Gaston County Gastonia
A informational resource fair will be held during National Family Week
that features staffed booths, resources, and materials for families to take
home.
- Family Service of the Piedmont Jamestown
Family Service of the Piedmont will host a series of four two-hour training
sessions on advocacy for youth and adults. Topics to be discussed include
how to identify and analyze public policy issues that impact youth and
families, how public policies are made, and how to be an effective advocate.
They plan to train a minimum of 24 youth and adults to become family
advocates. During NFW, they will host an informational resource fair, dinner
and presentations on the progress of the High Point Police Department drug
market reduction strategy and city of High Point revitalization plans.

information about family-friendly businesses, how to access family-support
resources and family safety.
Pennsylvania:
- Auberle McKeesport
Auberle is proposing to host a informational resource fair focused on
reaching the general community, referral sources and interested business
constituents. In addition to the fair, Auberle would facilitate educational
"break-out sessions." These educational sessions will have great potential
to cover a variety of topics including service availability, public policy
and general education.
- Philadelphia Health Management Philadelphia
PHMC will host a family informational resource fair, open to the public,
that will promote dozens of PHMC programs that give people tools to
strengthen their relationships with their children, economic security,
health and independence.

In a mobilized effort to address poverty in Pittsburgh, Parental Stress
Center and Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, will lead and implement
a year-long Citizens Leadership Initiative (CLI), designed to support and
develop the capacity of vulnerable citizens to actively participate in civic
life. At lest 25 citizens, hand selected by sponsoring agencies to be CLI
"fellows," will participate in a twelve-week civic leadership training and
implement a civic engagement project.

predatory lending, and the loan process.

key leaders to discuss the challenges impacting the community, an

reliable childcare, available resources, health care, affordable housing,
and transportation.

The Alliance for Families and Children's National Family Week event will
include a roundtable discussion on the "State of the Family," both from a

resources that can support youth aging out of foster care. They are also

Word of Hope is inviting the public to learn about programs and services
available to them including free computer training, employment services,
heath care, social services and prison reentry services.

During NFW, Family Service of Racine plans to host a family festival
that incorporates family team building exercises, informational booths from
area non-profits, an open house and lunch.
- La Casa de Esperanza, Inc. Waukesha
La Casa de Esperanza, Inc. will celebrate National Family Week by holding an
informational resource fair promoting literacy and recreational reading.
Reading and reading skills are assets that many of the low-income and
Hispanic population they serve cannot live without. There will also be
referral services for adults who may have difficulty reading and for youths
having reading problems in school.
